Can you reverse-engineer and develop formulas according to our needs?

5 Steps to Reverse Engineer and Develop Cosmetic Formulas

1. State your formula requirements e.g., images of sample products in the market, product concept, desired cost price, andyou must send us actual product samples and images firstto assess if we can reverse engineer the formula.

2. Send us the sample product you wish to reverse engineer Send a product sample to R&D so that the researchers can analyze its actual texture. The sample must be at least 30 grams.

3. R&D analyzes and evaluates the formula Our researchers will evaluate the received formula and provide feedback within 3-5 days after receiving the actual sample, indicating the percentage of similarity we can achieve (normally, we accept projects only if 80% similarity or more is achievable). We will also provide a price quote, specifying the minimum order quantity (MOQ) in kg for your desired formula and the price per kg. For example, MOQ 30 kg at 800 THB/kg, and a price breakdown as shown in the table.

Quantity

Price/kg

30 kg (MOQ)

800 THB/kg

50 kg

700 THB/kg

100 kg

600 THB/kg

4. Agree to formula development, pay 5000 THB/formula development fee Once we inform you that we can reverse engineer or develop the formula and provide the price quote for your decision, if you agree, a 5000 THB development fee must be paid to initiate the ordering of raw materials and commence research and development.

  • The first sample will be sent within approximately 7-15 days. Once the customer tries the product sample, we will await their feedback to proceed with production or further formula adjustments.

  • Subsequent samples, if adjustments are made, will be sent every 3-5 days. Customers can request up to 5 formula adjustments, not including the first sample.

5. Conclusion of development and reverse engineering

  • If the formula is approved, we will proceed with production.

  • If the formula is not approved, After receiving all 6 samples (including the first one) and still not being satisfied, the factory will refund 50% of the actual development fee, which is 2500 THB, and the development and reverse engineering process will conclude.

Related Questions about Formula Reverse Engineering and Development

Who owns the formula that is reverse engineered and developed?

  • The factory owns the newly reverse engineered and developed formula, but the intellectual property rights of the formula will belong to the customer. Only the customer who commissioned the development and reverse engineering has the right to use the newly developed formula. The factory will not have the right to use this formula commercially or create similar formulas for other customers.

Can the customer who commissioned the development and reverse engineering know the percentage of ingredients in the formula?

  • The percentage of all ingredients in the entire formula cannot be disclosed as it is proprietary information to prevent customers from ordering production at other factories. Only the percentage of active ingredients, fragrance, and color additives in the formula can be disclosed. The full formula percentages cannot be revealed.

Can customers purchase this developed formula for their own use?

  • Customers can purchase the formula to produce it themselves, known as a "Master Formula." This includes detailed information on all ingredients and their 100% proportions, as well as the production process, allowing them to produce it themselves or hire other factories. The cost for a Master Formula is 150,000 THB per formula.

Is there a contract for formula reverse engineering and development?

Calculating product manufacturing costs

Calculating product manufacturing costs

Calculating the production cost of 1 unit can be done using"Cost Calculation Program"on our website.

"Add items 1-6 together to calculate the cost of your desired product."

1. Cosmetic Formula Cost

♥ For example, an order of 5 kg at 3500฿/kg = 17500฿

2. Packaging Cost If each unit contains 10 grams, 5 kg will yield 5000/10 = 500 units. Calculation as follows:

♥ Packaging at 20 baht per piece = 500 pieces x 20฿ = 10000฿

3. Label Sticker or Screen Printing Cost

♥ 500pcs x 3฿ = 1500฿

4. Packing fees

♥ 500pcs x 5฿ = 2500฿

5. Document Service Fee

♥ Application for a manufacturing client's registration code: 2000฿

♥ Thai FDA notification for 1 product name: 2000฿

6. Other costs, if any Design fees, screen-printing fees, and product box costs

Total cost: 35500.00฿ + VAT 7% = 37985.00฿

How to find and order packaging?

Finding and ordering packaging

1. Supply: Sourcing packaging

Simply search on Google.com using the Images tab, then enter the packaging type and capacity you want.

For example: black pump bottle 250 ml, cream jar 30 grams, shampoo bottle 200 ml.

Once you find an image of the packaging you want, save the image or the supplier’s website so you can contact them to purchase it yourself or ask the factory to order it for you. Factories usually search Google and send packaging options to customers anyway.

2.Order Packaging Orders

1. Customers Purchase Packaging Themselves Then send it to the factory for filling and packing. Each order must include more packaging units than the production quantity. For example, if you order 500 units for production, you should order 520 packaging units or more. Important Order 1-2 sample units for a filling trial before placing a bulk order. This helps prevent errors and allows time to replace the packaging if any problems arise.

2. The Factory Purchases Packaging for You Customers must send a photo of their desired packaging so the factory can source and order it. Once we receive a price, we will let you know. If you approve the price, the factory will order samples first to test filling them with the actual product.

If the factory purchases packaging for you, approximately 2-5% will be added to the actual packaging cost. For example, a bottle priced at 18 baht will be charged at 19-20 baht, as we need to order spare units to ensure we can produce the full quantity you ordered.

Is there a production contract when ordering manufacturing?

Production contracts are available, and clients can choose whether or not to sign them.

Our factory's production contracts are on a lot-by-lot basis. You can sign a new contract for each lot, or sign a single initial agreement that covers all subsequent orders. The first contract signed will encompass all ownership rights.

Even though the factory holds the FDA (Ay. Yor.) license, the ownership of the products—whether it's the brand or the goods manufactured under our facility—belongs exclusively to the client who commissioned the production. The factory is prohibited from selling, advertising, promoting, or marketing any of the client's products. Here is a sample of our production contract: 📎 Sample Production Contract.pdf

Can I order less than the minimum quantity specified?

You can order production below the specified minimum quantity, but we do not handle FDA registration or actual product packaging.

You can order production below the minimum quantity, but we do not handle FDA registration for such orders. FDA registration is only available for orders meeting the minimum quantity. Products will be packaged in 1-liter or 5-liter gallons.

The price will be calculated at the initial rate (minimum quantity) +30%. For example, for formula CM1197, the minimum order is 10 kg at 1500 THB/kg. If a customer wishes to order 1 kg, the price will be 1500 + 30% = 1950.00 THB/kg.

Shipping Free delivery within Bangkok for one trip (for orders totaling 15,000 THB or more) / For other provinces or orders below the threshold, shipping fees will be charged based on actual cost.

Can you blend new fragrances for perfumes?

Yes, you can blend a new fragrance yourself or have our R&D team blend it for you. The factory's available fragrances are listed on this webpage. https://lopsite.com/RM/RMF You can choose fragrances from this page.

You can also order samples to try. Fragrances can be blended for sample orders, with the blend ratios totaling 100%. For example, to order a perfume sample at a 20% fragrance concentration, you could blend 3 fragrances as follows: 1.Coconut 50% +2.Milk 30% +3.Blue Chanel 20% = a new fragrance blend totaling 100%. Our R&D team will blend these 3 fragrances into a new scent and send you a sample to see whether you like it.

This newly created fragrance will be unique to your brand and cannot be replicated.

Tips for Blending a New Fragrance

1. Blend no more than 4 scents. Most blends use 3 scents.

2. Divide the scents in the blend into 2 categories: Main scentandSupporting scent with proportions totaling 100%.

3.Main: 1 main scent Proportion: 60-90%. This is the scent you like or want to stand out. Typically used at 60% or more.

4.Sub: 1-2 supporting scents Proportion: 10-40%. These scents add accents that enhance or contrast with the main scent. For example:

  • Blending complementary scents Main scent = Vanilla 80% Supporting scents = Coconut 10% + Milk 10%

  • Blending contrasting scents Main scent = Vanilla 80% Supporting scents = Rose 15% + Peppermint 5%

Can the factory source a preferred scent or match a sample scent provided?

We can source a fragrance you like, but we do not offer fragrance reverse-engineering or development services.

Customers must provide a physical fragrance sample of at least 10 ml for us to smell. Our factory will source the fragrance within 7-15 days.

If it is a brand-name perfume fragrance, we can usually source almost any scent. However, we cannot source newly created custom fragrance blends. We can only find a similar scent; we do not offer perfume reverse-engineering services.

There is no charge for sourcing a fragrance. A fee applies when customers order samples to try. For example, a body perfume sample containing 15 ml/bottle costs 150฿ each, with free shipping.

Some new fragrances require a higher MOQ. For example, our usual MOQ is 5 liters. However, if you want a new fragrance that is not in stock, the MOQ may increase to 10-20 liters because we need to order the new fragrance.

Can I request a quotation? How?

How to Request an Accurate Quote

To receive an accurate quotation and minimize revisions, please summarize your requirements first.

1. What products are you ordering?

For example, 'hair treatment, product code Cm1197'. You can find the product code on the sample bottle you received. If there are specific colors or scents, please specify.

2. What quantity are you ordering (in kilograms or liters)?

1 kg = 1000 grams = 1000 ml = 1 liter
The more you order, the lower the price. You can check the price rates on the page for your desired formula.

3. Which packaging type and fill volume do you prefer?

Choosing your packaging first is essential, as it will be used to calculate packaging costs. For example, if you order 10 kg and want 100 grams per piece, you will receive 100 pieces. The factory will then calculate the packaging cost for these 100 pieces.

4. Do you prefer sticker labels or screen printing?

There are two main types of product labels: stickers and screen printing, or a combination of both.

1. Sticker Labels No minimum production quantity. Pricing depends on label size.

2. Screen Printed Labels Minimum order of 500 pieces. Separate costs for screen blocks and printing.

5. Are you ordering product boxes or do you have other requirements?

Product boxes have a minimum order of 500 boxes, priced at 12-25฿/box (depending on size). Alternatively, customers can have boxes made themselves and send them to the factory for packing. Please let us know of any other requirements so we can provide an accurate quotation.

Please provide your full name or company name. And contact number every time. If you require a VAT invoice under a company name, please provide complete company details.

What details should a proper cosmetic label include?

Cosmetic labels must include the following details:

Cosmetic product name and trade name: Must appear in larger text than other information and must not imply exaggerated benefits.

Cosmetic product type or category: Specify the intended use, such as a facial skincare product or sunscreen.

Names of all ingredients: List in descending order of quantity.

Directions for use: Explain how to use the product correctly and appropriately.

Warnings or recommendations: Specify precautions for use, if any.

Manufacturer's name and address:

  • For products manufactured domestically: state the factory name and the manufacturer's address.

  • Imported products: Specify the importer's name, as well as the manufacturer's name and country of manufacture.

Net content: Specify the weight or volume, such as grams or milliliters.

Cosmetic notification number: Clearly display the 10- or 13-digit notification number.

Batch number and manufacturing/expiry date (day, month, year): An expiry date is mandatory for products with a shelf life of less than 30 months.

What customizations are possible for hair treatment and conditioner?

Common formula adjustments for hair treatments and conditioners include:

1. Increasing or decreasing softness and smoothness This involves increasing the amount of smoothing agents (silicones) in the formula. However, this changes the texture and feel during use. For example, hair may feel softer, but the scalp may become oily more easily, requiring more frequent washing.

2. Increasing or decreasing shine This involves adding shine-enhancing agents, such as waxes, to make hair shinier after use. However, adding too much can reduce how well the fragrance lasts on the hair.

3. Increasing or decreasing viscosity This involves adjusting the amount of thickening agents to make the treatment thicker or thinner. This formula is normally already very thick. If you want to use it in a shampoo pump bottle, we can also make it substantially thinner.

4. Adjusting the fragrance or color, or adding extracts Adding extracts If customers would like to add ingredients, there are 2 approaches:

1. Adding ingredients to support marketing claims Only a very small amount is added for marketing purposes. This amount does not alter the formula or increase the price. This approach is commonly used to support ingredient claims for formulas that already work well but need additional ingredients for marketing.

2. Adding ingredients at effective levels Ingredients are added in amounts sufficient to produce results. Adding them may change the formula, making it thinner, thicker, or otherwise different. The formula's performance may 1. improve, 2. stay the same, or 3. become worse. This approach increases the price according to the ingredients added.

Choosing the right packaging

Hair treatment and conditioner formulas have a fluffy texture, so the amount that fits in a container is approximately 5% less than its stated capacity. For example, a jar purchased with a stated capacity of 250 grams will hold only 230 grams when full.
Based on our experience, containers of different sizes can hold approximately the following amounts of treatment cream:

  • 100 grams: actual fill weight 90-95 grams

  • 200 grams: actual fill weight 180-190 grams

  • 250 grams: actual fill weight 220-230 grams

  • 300 grams: actual fill weight 270-280 grams

Adding a cooling sensation will result in a less viscous texture.

To add a cooling sensation to this treatment formula, we use "Menthol" at 0.5-1%, depending on the desired cooling intensity, starting at 0.5%. However, adding this ingredient has effects beyond cooling, as follows:

  • The treatment will become slightly thinner when 0.5-1% is added. At higher levels, it will become noticeably less thick.

  • A menthol or mint scent will blend with your chosen fragrance, as this ingredient naturally has a mint scent. Adding it will introduce a hint of mint to the formula.

Note: Adding a cooling ingredient (Menthol) at up to 1% will not increase the formula cost; we will add it free of charge. Adding more than 1% will increase the formula cost.

What are the downsides of adjusting the formula for increased smoothness?

This hair treatment formula already provides a high level of softness and smoothness, thanks to 4-5 silicone ingredients. Additional softness and smoothness can be added if desired, but increasing them in the formula will also make the hair and scalp feel oily more easily during use and increase the formula's cost (approximately 50฿/Kg).

Increasing softness and smoothness too much may not improve the overall feel during use. It can make the scalp oily more easily and require more frequent washing. We recommend increasing softness only in moderation.

Fragrance oil affects the color of the cream.

Initial color (Base) The formula has an off-white cream base. However, adding different fragrance concentrates may slightly change its color. The color will fully stabilize within 1 month and may change from white to pale yellow or light brown, or it may remain unchanged. The resulting color depends on the fragrance concentrate used. The fragrance concentrate level in the base formula is 1.5%.

Screenshot_2.webp

Why does the color of the treatment cream change as it ages?

The treatment cream reaches its final consistency within 1 month. Immediately after production, the cream may not have fully set and may be less thick and viscous than expected. After approximately 10-30 days, it will become thicker, more viscous, and darker in color.

The image clearly shows the change in the cream's color. The treatment reaches its maximum thickness and viscosity after 10-30 days and then maintains that consistency without further changes. This means the cream has fully set.

What customizations are available for Hair Oil / Body Oil / Face Oil?

Hair Oil / Body Oil / Face Oil can be customized as follows:

1. Adjust the fragrance The usual fragrance level is 0.5-1%. It can be increased to no more than 1%; otherwise, the texture will become thinner. Some fragrances may also alter the formula, for example by making it cloudier or changing its color. The maximum fragrance level is therefore 1%.

2. Adjust the texture The texture can be made thicker or thinner.

3. Adjust the color The color can be changed to other colors.

4. Add extracts If you would like to add ingredients, there are 2 approaches:

  • 1. Adding ingredients to support marketing claims A very small amount is added for marketing purposes. The amount added will not alter the formula or increase the price. This is commonly done to support ingredient claims for formulas that already perform well but need additional ingredients for marketing purposes.

  • 2. Add ingredients at effective levels Ingredients are added in amounts sufficient to produce results. Adding them may change the formula, making it thinner, thicker, or otherwise different. The formula's performance may 1. improve, 2. stay the same, or 3. become worse. This approach increases the price according to the ingredients added.

How to make perfume smell strong and last long?

There are 2 main ways to make perfume last longer.

1. It depends on the fragrance you choose. Naturally long-lasting fragrances require a lower concentration than those that fade more quickly.

2. Increase the % concentration of the fragrance concentrate.

Projection and longevity vary from fragrance to fragrance. For example, fragrance A at a concentration of 20% may last up to 8 hours, while fragrance B at a concentration of 30% may last only 5-6 hours.

If your preferred fragrance does not last long and you want stronger projection and greater longevity, increase the concentration of the fragrance concentrate. For example, if you try your preferred fragrance at a concentration of 20% and feel it does not project well or last long enough, increase the concentration to 30%.

Note Perfumes produced by our factory normally already contain an ingredient that helps the scent last longer, called Musk. It acts both as a fragrance ingredient and as a fixative to extend the perfume's longevity. It is blended into the formula at 1-2% without altering the desired main scent, while helping the fragrance last longer.

For perfume production, can I mix my own fragrance oils?

If you purchase your own fragrance concentrate, you can supply it to our factory for blending or production.

If you already have a fragrance concentrate or would like to source your preferred scent yourself, you can supply it to our factory. We can handle Thai FDA registration, blending, filling, and packaging to deliver products ready for sale, with the product name legally registered by the factory. There are 2 options:

1. Supply your own fragrance concentrate for blending Receive products ready for sale Whether you have an alcohol base, an oil base, or just the fragrance concentrate, our factory can manufacture products ready for sale. We handle blending, Thai FDA registration, filling, and packaging.

2. Supply your own fragrance concentrate for blending Order bulk perfume only Our factory handles blending and Thai FDA registration. You order only the bulk perfume and handle filling and packaging yourself.

What is the Excise Tax on Perfumes?

Perfume Taxation with the Excise Department

Perfumes are classified as "luxury goods," similar to alcohol and cigarettes, falling under 13 categories of products subject to excise tax. This can be divided into two cases:

1. Imported from abroad for sale in Thailand

2. Produced domestically for sale in Thailand or export abroad For products manufactured domestically, or if you contract a factory to produce body sprays, fragrances, perfume concentrates, etc., excise tax must be paid according to legal regulations, as shown below. The tax is calculated based on:The "actual selling price" stated on the box or on the website.

When manufacturing products such as body perfumes, this additional tax must be paid as required by law. Once production has been agreed upon, the customer commissioning the products must always inform the factory of the actual selling price. For example, if the perfume box displays a price of 1000 baht, the actual selling price is considered to be 1000฿. The selling price per item shown on a sales website must likewise be used to calculate excise tax. starting from when the quotation is provided. Recommendation

  1. It is advisable not to print the price on the box, as prices can change due to promotions and order quantities. Therefore, the price can be specified on the website, online media, or affixed later to the box. Avoid pre-printing prices, because if a price is printed on the box, it will be used to calculate excise tax, potentially leading to overpayment compared to your actual selling price.

  2. Legally, excise tax must be paid every time perfume products are ordered for production, but there are

certain exceptions we can discuss, ensuring that clients contracting production do not pay excessive excise tax.

3.Crimping Sealing Closing Crimp Pump with Fluted Collar

Capping Method:Requires a crimping machine only. This machine uses a fluted (pleated) pressing head, made of alloy steel, to crimp and seal around the bottle neck. Popular sizes include 13mm, 15mm, 18mm, and 20mm.

How many types of Hair Oil / Body Oil / Face Oil are there, and what are they?

Oils for skin, hair, and face. There are 2 types:

1. Oil + Silicone Formula

An oil formula blended with silicone. This formula is lightweight, smooth, non-sticky, and provides an excellent user experience. It can be used to nourish the entire body, including the face, body, and hair. It is more affordable and perfectly suited for hot, humid climates like Thailand, where people tend to sweat easily. When used on hair, oil with silicone is often called “Hair Coat.”

Pros: Lightweight, smooth, non-sticky, and more affordable than 100% oil formulas. Can also be claimed as natural oil.

Cons: Can only incorporate a small percentage of fragrance (0.5-1.5%). Adding more will cause the formula to separate. If you desire a stronger or longer-lasting scent, you cannot increase the fragrance percentage in this formula.

2. 100% Natural Oil Formula

A formula made from 100% natural oils. This formula uses 100% oil ingredients, utilizing the lightest oils available. However, its lightness will never match that of silicone-blended formulas. It tends to be stickier but provides longer-lasting smoothness and moisture, along with more skin-nourishing benefits than silicone-containing formulas. When used on hair, 100% natural oil is called “Hair Oil.”

Pros: Provides long-lasting moisture and feels gentler and safer than silicone-blended oils. It can incorporate a higher percentage of fragrance (5-15%), making it ideal for creating long-lasting scented oils. This formula also allows for shimmer to be added without settling, resulting in a beautiful oil texture that doesn't require shaking before use, which is not possible with silicone-blended oils.

Cons: This formula is oilier and stickier, and also comes at a higher price than the Oil + Silicone formula. It is suitable for normal to dry skin types, but not recommended for oily skin or those who sweat easily.

Can I claim Organic and Natural properties for products?

Guidelines for Organic and Natural Product Claims

1. “Natural Product” Claim

Natural cosmetics use natural substances or contain natural extracts, or are made with ingredients derived from natural substances.

2. “Organic” Claims Are Divided into 4 Levels

These are cosmetics or dietary supplements containing organic ingredients. Organic ingredients are substances from nature that have not undergone any chemical processing and are certified.

  • ECOCERT: Certification from a European organization

  • USDA: Certification from an American organization

2.1. “Organic 100%” Claim 100% organic ingredients in the formula: “100% organic.” The USDA or ECOCERT logo may be used.

2.2. “Organic Certified” Claim 95-99% organic ingredients: “Organic.” The USDA or ECOCERT logo may be used.

2.3. “Made With Organic” Claim 70-94% organic ingredients: “Made with organic ingredients.” The ECOCERT logo may be used.

2.4. “Specific Organic” Claim Products containing less than 70% organic ingredients cannot be claimed to be organic products. Label claims may refer only to the specific organic ingredients, for example, “Contains Argan Oil Organic”.

FDA: Cosmetic Product Registration and Naming

1. Cosmetic Brand Naming

1. Choose a brand name: ต้องตั้งชื่อทั้งภาษาไทยและEng เช่น Bomer โบเมอร์ / Dior ดิออร์

2. Explain what the brand name represents: Explain its meaning or what it represents, such as an abbreviation of the brand owner's child's name, the brand owner's name, or something else.

3. Choose a cosmetic product name: Names that indicate properties and texture (cream, gel, serum, or others), and may include ingredients in the formula, such as Argan Hair Serum / Whitening Gluta Cream / Perfume, etc.

There are 2 main steps to obtaining Thai FDA notification for cosmetics. They are: 1. First, apply for a manufacturing client code. 2. Then apply for Thai FDA notification. However, customers can now apply directly without first applying for a "manufacturing client code." The factory will apply for a "manufacturing client code" if the customer requests one or if the product is at risk of violatingThai FDA regulations. For example:

  • Cosmetics for massage

  • Warming massage balms for relaxation

  • Cosmetics for intimate areas

  • Skin care gels that can be used as lubricants

2. Cosmetic FDA Approval and Document Preparation

2.1. Requesting a Manufacturer Code (Optional, processing time 3-7 days)

All customers who wish to register their cosmetics with the Thai FDA must first apply for a manufacturing client code using the documents listed below. If you already have a code, you do not need to apply again; simply provide it to us. Your manufacturing client code is your national ID number or company registration number. Please note that delays in submitting documents will also delay your Thai FDA notification.

Please download these 3 documents and complete all required information.

2.2. Requesting FDA Approval and Brand Naming

Rules for naming cosmetic products under Thai FDA regulations

  • Choose a name that has no meaning in English and conveys beauty in a cosmetic context

  • You may use a person's name or another name, but you must provide Thai FDA officials with a written explanation of what it conveys and why you chose it

  • Names must not make exaggerated claims, be offensive, or misrepresent the facts

  • Names must not create misunderstandings about essential aspects of the cosmetic product

  • Names must not be inappropriate in the context of Thailand's cultural values or undermine the value of the Thai language

  • Examples of names that are not accepted for cosmetics

    • Judo (Judo): The reason given is that it could be misread and suggest sexual connotations.

    • Hair growth (Hair Go): This means making hair grow, which is not a cosmetic function. According to the officials, the word growth is not permitted.

    • Varicose veins (Varicose Veins): This refers to varicose veins, so it falls under the category of medicine for treating varicose veins rather than cosmetics.

    • Medicated balm is classified as medicine, not a cosmetic.

    • Banana (Banana): This name suggests food rather than cosmetics and can sometimes carry sexual connotations, so it is not accepted.

  • Approval by the Thai FDA is entirely at the discretion of Thai FDA officials.
